Dear Simply Juicy Traveler,
Does the title of this post sound like a scary movie? Quite the contrary. It was one of the best trips I've ever taken. Having recently returned from a "Girlfriend Getaway" with my good friend Christine, we are anxious to fill you in on all the "Girly" details. And we had a blast!
In fact, there's so much to tell that we're posting it in a two part series. See Part I below...
With just four days for our "girlfriend getaway", we decided at the outset to be as flexible and spontaneous as possible. Planning only the most critical details (air, hotel, and car), our single mission was to enjoy every wonderful "Thelma and Louise" moment along the way (without the guns and cliffs, of course).
Leaving NYC on an early morning flight, we arrived in Albuquerque by 2pm local time. We picked up our PT Cruiser convertible and headed for the Hyatt El Tamaya, located on the Native American Santa Ana Pueblo, for our first night's stay. Immediately after checking into our lovely mountain view room (with patio), we made a b-line for their award-winning Tamaya Mist Spa. Fortunately for us, they had two available appointments and whisked us away for a few hours of exquisite relaxation and radical pampering.
We headed out to Santa Fe the following day, and our on way discovered a group of Native American women selling their handcrafted jewelry at a local gas station in Santa Domingo. After purchasing some wonderful pieces,
one of the women suggested we take a side trip to visit their pueblo.
While searching for the location, we stumbled upon The Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument in Sandoval County, NM. This newly ordained National Monument (2001) contains striking cone shaped rock formations 6-7 million years old! Changing into our sneakers, we took a quick hike before getting back on the road.
Check in on Wednesday for more fun details in "Return From Girlfriend Getaway-Part II."
